ENGLISH
The carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) is a flowering plant
native to the Near East and has been cultivated for the very last 2,000
years. Its unique organic flower color was pinkish-hued, but later on,
cultivars of other colours, such as red, white, yellow and green,
have been produced. The carnation is the national flower of Spain.

Though initially utilized to the species Dianthus
caryophyllus
, the identify Carnation is also typically applied to some of
the other species of Dianthus, and more specifically to backyard
hybrids in between D. caryophyllus and other species in the genus.

Some scholars think that the title &quotcarnation&quot comes from
&quotcoronation&quot or &quotcorone&quot (flower garlands), as it was 1 of the
flowers employed in Greek ceremonial crowns. Other folks believe the title stems
from the Latin &quotcarnis&quot (flesh), which refers to the authentic colour
of the flower, or incarnacyon (incarnation), which refers to the
incarnation of God created flesh.

CASTELLANO
hojas angostas, opuestas y envainadoras y flores vistosas.

A neighbor gave us a cutting of this rose. My wife has nursed it along, and these are evidence of her work, from April 2009. There’s some stunning detail in the larger sizes, and, of course, even in this size, such as the hairs/bristles on the sepals. I have no idea what the triangle-shaped object is.

I’ve been attempting to use Spanish tags, and want to note that Spanish has distinct words for leaf bud and flower bud. Capullo is the word for flower bud.

Bougainvilleas have great small flowers, surrounded by splendid bracts. The plant is broadly grown as an ornamental. I guess you’d call it a vine — it seems to climb on fences, buildings, and so forth.

You can see two unopened flower buds subsequent to the open flower. The flower buds are perhaps 1 cm/.25 in in diameter.

I am curator of a Bougainvillea gallery, lovely images of this plant by other men and women.

A little additional along than our final dogwood flower bud photo. These dogwood (Cornus florida) flower buds each contain perhaps 20 tiny flower buds, in a group, surrounded by four modified leaves, or bracts. As you can, possibly, see, the bracts are going to be largely white. We also have a tree with pink bracts.

Thanks for hunting! Much more detail accessible at the bigger sizes. My wife took this photo.
