The For Carnation- A Tribute To

For Band Details just Google. I played this for a Music History class I was taking at a community college. My professor looked at the color of the CD (which is black) and before listening to it said, “Oh, I think we’re in for something…ya know”(then gave the devil horns) The opinion that impressed me most from everyone was that of a 67 year old woman. She mentioned that she liked the solid theme and enjoyed the melody and subtle growth throughout the song.

The For Carnation -Being Held

(Britt Walford’s a genius.) 2000- Touch and Go Records The For Carnation The seeds for The For Carnation were sown in Louisville, Kentucky circa 97. There, improvising and collaboration between Britt Walford and vocalist/keyboardist Brian McMahan, bassist Todd Cook (Shipping News) and guitarist Michael McMahan, led to the improvement of a uniquely dynamic, minimalist-informed, nevertheless R&B-inspired music clearly distinguishable from previously associated group efforts (ie Slint.) Rehearsal tapes made in the course of this period offered the resulting core group (Cook and the McMahan brothers) with a considerable body of rough material- operate that would, more than time, recommend a distinct evolution in the efforts of the TFC collective. The results of their work, a self-titled 6-song, 45 minute release, was completed in Chicago in ’99 with the help of producer John McEntire. With Bobb Bruno (guitar, sampler, keyboards), and Steve Goodfriend (drums), the new five-piece took up where the authentic group had left off, allowing jams to incubate and take shape as fully realized songs. The band had previously recorded two EPs, Marshmallows and Battle Songs, which had been released on Matador. They have been combined into Promised Functions, and released on Touch and Go in July 2007.
