Question by happee: What color landscaping rock and flower colors would you advocate pro a cream-colored property with blue-shutters?
We’re modifying our red mulch to rock and are trying to figure out what colour/type of rock would go greatest with our residence. We’re also adding concrete edging and some far more flowers (we’re in Minnesota). I’m so poor at this and would delight in some professional opinions. Our home is cream/linen with blue shutters and a “weathered gray” roof, which is in fact dark brown seeking.
We were thinking about lava rock pebbles (burnt red), Colorado sunrise stone (creams, whites, and browns), or Mountain Blend stone (mix with slight reds, tans, grays), but we haven’t truly looked at locations with a ton of choice and are not set on something.
Pro flowers, I was pondering reds, yellows, and blues/purples even so, a neighbor had a mx of pinks, whites, yellows, and purples that looked cute and cheery.
Also, the edging can have a number of colours in it, so I want to tie it in with every small thing. Any suggestions?

Hi… I like either the second or third rock mix… not the sound red one. The lava rock sounds a tiny harsh colored.
I would advocate a multi-season program. Here’s 1 that I consider would look lovely:
Spring: Sow a bed complete of all types of daffodils, with patches that bloom really early, early, mid, and late season. Choose some that are vibrant yellow, some bicolors… search by way of the bulb selections and go wild. When you sow these, also sow a Lot of blue grape hyacinths. You sow the daffies deep, and then fill with dirt, and poke grape hyacinths in Appropriate in among them. About three grape hyacinths per daffodil. When this blooms, it will be like a sea of blue with yellow above. It’s a gorgeous mixture. Also, the critters Do Not Consume either of these! And they multiply season right after season, so you can place them in spaced a bit this year, subsequent year you will have a lot more, and the third year it’ll really come into its personal.
Summer time: Place in some perennials. I would suggest some campanula (bluebells) in blue and white. The blue will be fantastic with your property, and the whites are honestly as well. Tuck in some pinks (dianthus), in cooperation the taller biennial Sweet William and the perennial clove pinks, which are brilliant pro the edges. Add a clump of iris (they come in copious colors and you can choose some to contest your property) pro early summer time, and a clump or two of daylilies pro late (try out a yellow patch with the tall Hyperion (scented) in back and the shorter reblooming Stella de Oro in front. Or go pro cream and pink.
Fall: Make positive you buy some mums! Small pots of mums are a fantastic value if you happen to be planting pro permanent gardens. You can get them in summer time and place them in groups, then you have the blooms all autumn, and every year right after. You can get brilliant colours… and you can adjust your colour scheme to rusts, deep burgandies, harvest golds and oranges pro the season. Add a couple of Autumn Sedum.
All Season: Fill in your perennial garden with annuals. You can transform your colours each year if you like. I be idiotic about petunias pro the color range and the reality that they spread out and fill regions nicely. I be idiotic about the tall pink cosmos, excessively, pro filling in the back of a garden that is newly planted.
All of these operate in my zone 5 New Hampshire garden, and really should be ok in your area as well.
